Ice Storms

So it's almost Christmas....we've got ice everywhere.... Someone slipped on the sidewalk today and I helped her up. I felt bad for her. I was in the process of salting the sidewalk when it happened. However, she laughed so no harm done....it suprised her more than anything. Schools are closed and delayed. First winter related delay/closing of the year. Kids have come into the shop looking for presents for their mothers. Some finding items for themselves. It's going to be a good day. :)

Fantasy House

Growing up, I loved watching a Sunday afternoon program out of Chicago called "Family Classics." They played a huge variety of movies. Every once in a while they'd pull out the 1960 film Swiss Family Robinson and I was enthralled.

I was never concerned about the practical realities of being shipwrecked or whatnot. I was in love with the tree house. What kid would not love to live there?????

Not too long ago I stumbled across a program on HGTV where they were walking around the home of an artist residing in Canada. The house has come to be known as "The Mushroom House." It was up for sale (I am not sure if it still is) and a house tour can be seen here.

The house is amazing. I appreciate non-traditional homes and homes where owners have exerted their artistic visions upon the structure itself. However, the most stunning piece of this stellar home resides over the fireplace in the Rumford Room. It is a giant carved statue of a dragon called "Ashley."

Go embrace your own creative side! Make your cards. Paint a few terracotta pots as gifts. Take a log from the woodpile and some branches and create a reindeer. Knit a scarf. Begin a quilt. Spend quality family time.

Christmas is Coming

Well, Christmas is soon to be here and the pitter patter of reindeer hooves will be heard upon many a roof. The halls have been decked with boughs of holly. Mistletoe has been hung in the doorway. Christmas trees have been decorated and are alight with cheerful twinkles. Stockings are hung by the chimney with care in hopes of being filled with trinkets and tassels and treats. So why don't you show the person you love a little affection with a gift from Reliquary? Effervescent bath balls make great stocking stuffers! Or you can spoil yourself! Pop one of these 3 inch beauties into the bath tub and soak your cares away!

Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush

Welcome to the first installment of the Blog for Reliquary!

It is a brisk 30 today and the temp doesn't look as if it will change much tonight.

These last two years have been terrible for business: the four-month Streetscape fiasco which shut us off to everyone for a year; people changing their shopping patterns to avoid coming downtown; no leading political vision for helping downtown; high gas prices; you name it. Now we are down to making a decision--do we close shop?

Fear not, fellow shoppers. We are in the process of developing a website to facilitate buying for those who can't seem to make it to us. We are also working on several other venues for product display. So, visit often and we'll keep you up to date.

We're only a shop and click away.

Best wishes,

A.
